What Manor fashionistas are wearing this summer

“Broccoli hair has got to go.” That is what Brad Mann, co-owner of Jitterbug, said in response to Manor Ink’s fashion-on-Main-Street survey conducted Saturday, July 11. Several people said they don’t like biker shorts. Overall, the Ink spoke with 15 different men and women of all ages. There was agreement among most that having your own style is better than trying to conform to everyone else.

It was surprising to find that people were so willing to take the fashion survey and have their picture taken. The Ink wanted to learn what people are wearing and thinking about fashion in Livingston Manor this summer.

“My grandmother ... always knew how to put together an outfit,” Daina Lynn explained when asked about her style inspiration. Others cited 1970s music and “homeless chic,” “function and especially shoes to protect my feet” and, of course, “I don’t follow trends.”

Here are some of the styles and clothing they will be wearing this summer:

• Lacy and feminine

• Sunshirts and overalls

• Lots of T-shirts

• Farmer chic

• Comfortable and casual wear

• Bohemian casual

• Flowy dresses and skirts

• Tank tops and jeans

Evelyn Tetenes, owner of Evelyn’s Ice Cream Bar in town, observes people on Main Street every day. “On weekends, sometimes it’s more eccentric. People have stylish hairdos, and they mix and match a lot. I see artistic people who have very colorful things on, including jewelry,” she said.

After a couple hours discussing personal styles with a range of people, we have concluded that preferences in Livingston Manor are very diverse, with a slight bias toward whatever makes you feel comfortable. We suggest that you create your own outfit; don’t copy other people and have fun!
