Just in time, the Ink’s list of holiday gift ideas for kids
By Manor Ink Staff
Every year, one of Manor Ink’s intrepid reporters assembles a list of gift ideas for adults to give to the younger members on their holiday lists. This year, though, rather than tasking one staffer with coming up with numerous suggestions, the paper decided to ask its reporters to submit one gift idea in each of three categories: toys for tots, presents for pre-teens, and, most challenging of all, items to please teens. So, to help you find the perfect gifts for the young people in your life, here are their suggestions.
Zoey McGee, editor-in-chief
Children: Sherpa Oversized Blanket
Keeps kids warm and snuggly. It’s perfect for lounging or long car rides.
Preteens: Legos
These blocks are the perfect amount of complexity for the learning child, but still have enough creativity and fun. The prices and complexity vary, making them the ideal simple or significant gift.
Teens: Uggs Tasman Slippers
These ultra-comfy suede slippers have been trending among teens recently. They have plush sheepskin lining, making them super warm. They are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
Savannah Chaboty, social media editor
Children: Puzzle game
Kids are still young and impressionable, and they’re still learning. A puzzle game can help them learn to use problem solving skills and it’s fun at the same time.
Preteens: Socks
Whether they are fuzzy or just normal, all preteens appreciate getting some cute socks, and if your preteen has a sense of humor get them some funny socks, too.
Teens: Phone case
Teens are obsessed with their phones, and there’s nothing they need more than a good phone case. It provides protection, and one in a cool color is a great way to express their personality.
Anahi Rodriguez, reporter
Children: Malibu Barbi
With the success of the Barbie movie, kids have found a new enthusiasm for this classic fashion doll. A Ken doll might even please the boy on your list.
Preteens: Virtual reality headset
Prices have come down on these cool gadgets to where they’re affordable on almost any budget. Kids love game playing with them, totally immersing themselves in a visual 360-degree experience.
Teens: Newest iPhone or AirPod Pros
No teen is ever without his or her phone, and the latest technology for texting, scrolling an app or listening to the latest tunes.
Adriana Serafino, reporter
Children: Crayola Art Case
An art set gives kids the ability to be creative and make their own creations which is so important.
Preteens: Legos, The Insect Collection
Legos are a great gift, as they provide a creative and fun experience that can be shared with the whole family.
Teens: ARTIX CL750 Headphones
Teens love listening to music on headphones, and these plug-in versions, unlike earpods, can create a sense of quiet by reducing external noise.
Rachel Zuckerman, reporter
Children: Collectables
L.O.L Dolls or Mochi Squishies are great for girls, while for boys, maybe Jurassic Park action figures or sets or action figures in general. But maybe ask ahead of time what piques their interest.
Preteens: This is a hard one
For girls, maybe get them a-top-of-the-chart cup, a Stanley or a Jellycat of their choice (a type of stuffed animal) and for boys, maybe a speaker or Nerf guns.
Teens: Better to ask?
I just have a few things to say. I don’t know, ask them for a wishlist, and there you go. I can’t even figure out my own generation!
Othello St. John, reporter
Children: Colorforms
Whether it’s the original 1950s set or one of the newer themed versions, Colorforms provide a fun and creative art experience for younger kids. Adults like fooling with the sets, too!
Preteens: Nintendo Switch
The Nintendo gaming system provides one of the most popular preteen pastimes. If your kid doesn’t already have a console, this will be a surefire hit.
Teen: More complicated Lego set
Teens enjoy playing with Legos, especially if they’re of the more realistic, challenging variety. Of course, a new phone or other device of the latest iteration will always delight your teenager.
We hope these suggestions help to complete your 2025 gift list. Many of these items can be found in our local shops, and purchasing them there will be a gift you can give to Sullivan County’s merchants. Happy holidays!
