Starry night, icy night at LMCS
Ice Carnival Dance a frosty success
By Michelle Adams-Thomas | Manor Ink
It was another great Ice Carnival dance this year, directed by Livingston Manor Central School’s student council manager, Julie Buck. Buck sent out a survey earlier in the year, asking students what food and drinks they’d like to have, and what the theme for this year’s dance should be. The students decided to go with a “Night with the Stars” red carpet theme, and the LMCS gym was covered with lights, balloons and blow-up Oscar awards!
The dance is held each year in conjunction the Manor Rotary Club’s traditional Ice Carnival (more about that on page 8). Though the Carnival has been postponed until Feb. 4, the dance took place as scheduled on Friday, Jan. 20. High school art teacher Jessica Mall, with the help of students, created decorations that went along with the theme. Each class also decorated a corner of the gym, competing for the best effort. First place went to the Class of 2025, winning $150. Their arrangement was created with the help of Ashley Hoag, Ciarra Staut and Jordyn Jones.
Each year, a King and Queen of the Ice are selected, and the people of the court this year were last year’s king and queen, Anthony Mendoza and Sienna Dutcher, joined by Samuel Wolkoff, Hunter Banks, Haiden Vail, Mackenzie Ward, Krysta Hallock and Erin Lenihan. Sienna and Anthony handed their crowns to this year’s royalty, Samuel and Mackenzie.
Teacher Jaime Snow advocated in favor of letting the middle schoolers attend the dance, making the gala a night to remember with twice as many students. Everyone enjoyed spending time with their friends, and the teachers did a great job putting everything together.
