A TRADITION Once again, the huge trout puppet created by the late Bud Wertheim was the focus of Livingston Manor’s renowned Trout Parade. It takes six able-bodied handlers to manage its articulated sections.

‘Once Upon a Trout’ – a storied parade

Photos and story by Manor Ink Staff

The weather was perfect, neither too cool nor too warm, no rain in sight. Fish fans began assembling mid-morning on Saturday, June 10, all along Main Street in Livingston Manor. The annual celebration of the region’s aquatic denizens, the Trout Parade, was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with a gala procession of notables, bands, puppets, floats and piscatory eccentrics kicking off at noon. There were vendors offering craft items in Renaissance Park, savory barbecue at the Fire Department and even a photo booth. By the time the last fire truck had passed the reviewing stand, the crowd had grown to many thousands, perhaps the largest turnout for the spectacle in recent memory. Following the main event, festivities continued at the Sunshine Colony, and all agreed that the 2023 Trout Parade had been a swimming success.
