Liberty, NY – It’s two first place winners from Livingston Manor Central School going to the International Soap Box Derby in Akron, OH. In June, seventh grader Karan Seekamp, won first place in the Super Stock Division and junior Emma Gaebel took first in the Masters Division at the Sullivan County race in Liberty.
Although Gaebel is secretary of the LMCS Technology Club, she actually raced with the Barn Buddies, another local racing club.
In its June edition, a Manor Ink story discussed the preparation and work Technology Teacher David Hubert’s students put into making their own cars for the Derby in Sullivan County. The race, which involves gravity powered cars, offers various racing divisions, including Stock, Super Stock and Masters. Hard work pays off.
LMCS also had two third place winners, Caleb Buck in the Stock Division and Cora Freidenstine in the Masters Division.
The 87th First Energy Soap Box Derby World Championship Race Week runs Sunday, July 13 to Saturday, July 19. Over 80 race cities around the world qualify champs for the annual First Energy All-American Soap Box Derby.
Being able to go is already a big deal, and either Emma or Karan could leave Ohio with a win. “I’m so excited to race in the World Championship,” said Emma. “I want to give a huge thanks to Barn Buddies for convincing me to race this year, and all of their help with my car. I can’t wait to represent Manor Motors and Barn Buddies in Ohio.”
We wish our racers lots of luck!
