For more than two decades, Livingston Manor’s famed Trout Parade has marked the start of the summer season with a joyously creative promenade down Main Street. This year’s parade, the 20th, was themed “Cirque du Trout” and was perhaps the biggest and best yet.
Grand Marshal Sally Wright, executive director of Catskill Art Space, led off the procession on Saturday, June 13, followed by “Willow Bea,” the giant trout puppet. It was carried by six stalwarts, three of whom were Kutztown U. students hefting the big fish for their fourth year. The RCS Band and scores of floats, personalities and suitably-attired characters came next. People young and old lined the street to watch the spectacle as kids scrambled to scoop up candy tossed by the marchers. At Renaissance Park, dozens of organizations and businesses touted services and wares. The weather was picture perfect, and the appreciative crowd was once again huge.
Thanks to the Livingston Manor Chamber of Commerce and Calliope-on-Main for once again organizing another dynamic event! Local food pantries and the RCS music education program benefit from the parade’s proceeds.
