Livingston Manor, NY – Need vintage houseware or movie props to sparkle up your living quarters? You can soon check out Taylor and Ace, a new business in the works here in our very own town. It’s run by Charlotte Taylor and Ethan Ace, a couple who used their last names as the name of the shop.

“I wanted to open a shop to have items that people need and use,” said Charlotte. That idea inspired the new store on Main Street.

Taylor has been collecting vintage items since she was 15 years old, items mostly from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. The shop will offer many of these for rent as props for photo shoots, film and stage sets or whatever purpose the renter may want them for. Other items in Taylor and Ace will be offered for sale.

“Anything you can see on the screen is a prop,” said Charlotte, describing the prop rental concept. “Popular props include food items, lamps, pottery or glassware, and pictures, to name a few.”

Objects from the shop’s prop collection can be rented for as long as they are needed. “It can be a few hours to a week or longer,” Taylor said. She has been involved in prop rentals for about ten years.

Although prop work isn’t always physically demanding, it’s not easy. Charlotte described it as requiring a lot of paperwork. Though Taylor and Ace is the couple’s first physical shop, Charlotte has had experience in the industry, placing her props in the popular HBO show “I Know This Much Is True” as well as in NBC’s “30 Rock” and Hulu’s “The Path.”

Taylor and Ace will open in mid-March. ”Until then, there is a lot of work to be done,” said Taylor. The shop will be open during regular business hours. “Unless you’re a producer looking for props – then Taylor and Ace’s hours will be pretty much whenever I’m needed,” Taylor said with a laugh.

She decided to open her business here because she felt it would be a positive addition to the neighborhood. “The town feels so welcoming. I’m very excited about being part of the Manor community,” Charlotte said. “I see possible presentations in the store that might include a lecture series about careers in the art and film world.”

Taylor and Ace is located at 41A Main Street. Watch for it to open soon.
