For decades a local hangout for beers, wings and burgers, The Cabin is open once again. Its new owners, Kama Carnes and Dennis Askins, want to continue the more-than-fifty-year tradition of serving up warmth and ease in a casual and comfortable, fire-lit environment.

The restaurant was built in 1971 as a true hand-hewn log cabin at the edge of a horse pasture where three country roads meet. The atmosphere is that of an intimate, thriving pub with an inviting hunting lodge feel. New York Fire Dept. memorabilia, taxidermy and cabin relics adorn the bar. Dollar bills cover the ceiling, gathered and dispersed when a local person or family is in need. Inspired tunes play in the background, sports on the screens. Antler chandeliers, hunter-green waxed cotton seating, aged original logs and beams and a wood burning stove in the heart of the cabin are just some of the authentic details that create a welcoming vibe.

The new owners reopened The Cabin on Feb. 1, after extensive refurbishments, adding luster to the woodwork inside and out. Wings, burgers and steaks will continue to be core offerings along with a variety of entrees, appetizers, sandwiches, fries and salads. The Guiness on tap is among the best the Ink’s adult staffers have tasted stateside – delicious and smooth. Manager Kelly Barlow and Chef Doug Mirra are back, along with Jackie Gieger, Jill Grishaber and Mackenzie Ripley filling out the staff team.

In new owner Kama Carnes’ words, “As stewards of The Cabin as it moves into this next chapter, we feel deep gratitude for those before us who have preserved it, and for the long-term patrons who have supported it throughout its iterations. It is an honor to carry forward The Cabin’s community focus and commitment to good causes, and a privilege to hear stories of yesteryear, as we work with members of the original crew to mold and continue The Cabin’s story into the future.”

The Cabin is still located at 495 Hessinger-Lare Road in Jeffersonville. For more information, visit facebook.com/thecabinny or call 845-482-2108.
