Pillars of Parksville: 8 pillars of health

Parksville, NY – Would you like to be more cautious about your well being? Do you just need some you-time? If so, you might want to visit Pillars of Parksville on Parksville Road, a new wellness center in the hamlet designed to help people get their health in check and feel relaxed.
Pillars opened on Jan. 28, after renovating their building, a former home, for three years. The center offers nutrition classes, meditation, yoga, exercise machines and other physical activity, along with personal trainers to offer assistance, and a spot to relax after a session. “It’s a place where people go to work on themselves,” said owner Samantha MacManus.
MacManus is a social worker with former ties to Livingston Manor Central School. She says that the idea for the center came during the pandemic. “We realized that people were going to need some good positive programs to get back into a good space,” she said.
A “good space” involves balance. MacManus said it’s about wanting “to have a really good day. I don’t want to starve myself, I don’t want to do some crazy diet. I want to eat what I want to eat, but I want to know how to balance it all.”
MacManus named the center Pillars of Parksville after the eight pillars of health. “We’re using the eight pillars of wellness to kind of guide us with the services, programs and the classes that we want to be able to hold here,” she said.
The exercise area is very private, MacManus emphasized. This is a great option for people who don’t like to go to a busy, crowded gym. People can also make reservations to go by themselves or with a friend.
The center’s recovery spa includes an infrared sauna and a cold tub for people who want to try cold tub therapy. MacManus notes that the infrared sauna is good not just for heat therapy, but also for light in the winter months.
They also do a nutrition night where they have certified nutrition counselor Steven Fritas give talks about the food we eat and how to create a good diet plan for yourself.
Pillars also has a fun way that clients can look back on their wellness journey and how they progressed: they can take home a miniature figure of themselves. This is thanks to Pillars’ impressive tech offerings which include a 3D body scanning machine and a 3D printer. The body scanner can evaluate bone mass, bone density and body mass index. The 3D printer can then generate an action figure that looks very much like the person scanned.
Pillars of Parksville is not only a calm space, but also a good active space to visit. MacManus urges persons interested in working on themselves to stop by. To learn more, visit facebook.com/pillarsofparksville.
