Combined varsity soccer trounces Chapel on ‘Pink Day’

Livingston Manor, NY – The combined Downsville/Manor/Roscoe girl’s team made an appearance at Manor Field in order to salute the Wildcat players – Megan Cristaldi, Kristina Davis and Julia Trotti – as well as play before a large crowd as part of “Pink Day” to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the local efforts of Ride2Survive.

The DMR eleven came charging out of the gate from the get-go, completely pinning up the visiting the Chapel Field squad in their own end during the first 10 minutes of the match. However, a number of good crosses and corners by MeKenzy Brown (Downsville) went begging until mid-way through the first half the floodgates started to open. First, a venomous shot from striker Rebecca Grashinski (Roscoe) singed the Chapel’s goalie’s gloves from 10 yards out that could not be held out. Davis in goal, barely involved for the first quarter of the game, was soon thereafter called into brief action, triggering a fast break that resulted in a second score by Grashinksi. Not long after, after shanking a golden chance just wide of the net, Shantel Knoor (Downsville) scored off the left wing as the first half closed 3-nil.

Little changed at the start of the second half as the dynamic Brown scored twice to put DMR comfortably in control of the contest. At that point the game became a bit more competitive as Chapel edged closer to the DMR goal on a number of occasions but never really threatened. To the delight of the home crowd, Davis sealed the proceedings with a nifty goal to put the match well out of reach.
