Hurleyville, NY – October is typically the month when the harvest comes in and the Halloween costumes come out. In keeping with the season, Hurleyville has begun holding its own celebration of both activities.

Accordingly, the second annual Hurleyville Scarecrow Festival, held on Sunday, Oct. 8, was really festive. It was a perfect day for the event, with the music playing while visitors walked around, seeing all the different booths selling jewelry, crafts, candles and toys.

Then after looking at the booths, they could stroll through this quaint hamlet, seeing all the different scarecrows made by Hurleyville’s various shops.

The creations were definitely not the typical scarecrow you’d find in a garden or on a farm. These scarecrows had a lot of personality as they were all so unique and clever.

Festival goers could find scarecrows all the way up Main Street to the end of town, as far as the Sullivan County Museum. There a band was entertaining the crowd, playing music which made a for great way to end the festival day.
