Livingston Manor, NY – Rockland Central School’s girls varsity volleyball team had their annual Pink Out game on Wednesday, Oct. 14, facing Sullivan West at home in RCS’s Manor campus gym.

The game featured excellent performances by senior Brooke Coman and junior Kat Slattery, which made the game a competitive affair for such an important event. Unfortunately though the home team was ultimately defeated.

So what does a Pink Out game entail? The players and fans wear pink to raise awareness for breast cancer. This specific cancer can develop in the breast tissue of both men and women, and is the second leading type of cancer deaths in the United States for women.

The team held a bake sale where the fans and players alike were able to buy fresh bread and cupcakes. All proceeds are going to the Ride to Survive Foundation which helps cancer patients get to necessary medical appointments.

Manor Ink spoke to RCS Coach Yomary Rodriguez after the game, and she was clearly inspired by her players, despite the loss.

“In every set, you notice the nerves kind of going away.” Rodriguez said. “And that’s where you can see them being their true selves.”

Her glowing commentary was reflected as the Wolves have pulled closer to a victory with every set. Their love and passion for the game is clearly growing with each new competition.

Rodriguez also gave a shoutout to Brooke Coman, whose leadership was essential to the team’s comeback.

“Brooke takes charge and energizes the team throughout the entire game,” Rodriguez said.
