Manor house lost in dramatic fire

Livingston Manor, NY – On Thursday, Aug. 27, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a call went out to the Livingston Manor Fire Department for a structure fire at 38 Spring Street in this hamlet. The house was fully engulfed when the firefighters arrived, according to Brett Marsden, the chief of the LMFD.
“The building was a total loss,” Marsden said.
The house was unoccupied at the time and there were thankfully no injuries. Multiple fire companies were called to assist, including Liberty, White Sulphur Springs, Roscoe Rockland and Youngsville. The Livingston Manor Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Town of Thompson’s Firefighters Assist and Search Team were also at the scene.
As of press time the cause had not been determined and was still under investigation. There is a possibility that lightning struck the house as several strikes were witnessed in the vicinity.
