Roscoe, NY – Ever want to look into the past? For clothes, hmm? Well, the Underground Fashion Outlet, or UFO, in Roscoe is the perfect place for you to go.

From the outside, it’s an unassuming storefront on a quiet Roscoe street. Step inside UFO, though, and you’re in an unworldly fashion store with a rock ’n’ roll spirit and packed with music memorabilia.

Underground Fashion Outlet is a place filled with vintage clothing, stocked with items from the peak of the ’60s to the ’90s music era, to modern luxury brands like Gucci. It also carries the store co-owners Andy and Kim Hilfiger’s private brand – “Andrew Charles.”

The Hilfigers describe their store more as a museum blending fashion and music than a simple vintage clothing shop.

“You know, we have lots of rock ’n’ roll stuff. It’s a bit of a museum for fashion and music. It’s a special place”, Andy said. “People come in and they’re like, this isn’t Roscoe!”

Styles at UFO vary. “We’re really into mixing vintage in modern. And the store is really based on fashion and music,” Andy said.

If the name Hilfiger sounds familiar but you can’t place it, well Tommy Hilfiger, Andy’s brother, has an acclaimed clothing brand, recognized around the world.

In 1969, Tommy started a small boutique store called the People’s Place, which was Tommy’s first clothing and record store. The store, founded in their basement, became their gateway to international fashion. It was inspired by the cultural revolution of the 1960s and named with the intention of welcoming people from all cultural backgrounds to meet and exchange ideas.

The vision seemed to come full circle with the establishment of the UFO outlet in Roscoe outlet last year.

The racks carry everything from vintage platform shoes straight out of 1970s clubs to rock-inspired samples that may never be reproduced. On the walls hang guitars autographed by Aerosmith, reminders of Andy’s own history as a musician. He has played with acts ranging from Kid Rock to the Ramones, and still performs with his band “Sway.” Overall, UFO is a great store to visit if you want to see memorabilia from the rock ages, and who knows, maybe something will capture your eye!
