Manor Ink kicks off 2022 with a special edition

By David Dann | Manor Ink Production Editor

It was at one of our news meetings last June that a Manor Ink staffer said, “I want to write something fun for the paper.” The response from the rest of the crew was an immediate, “Yes! We do, too!”

That’s when the idea for an edition of the newspaper consisting entirely of “fun” stories began to take shape. Being a journalist – even in a small town like Livingston Manor – is never an easy job. Gathering the facts, interviewing officials and townspeople, writing and rewriting stories – that’s real work. It’s no wonder that most professional reporters crave a break every now and then. And our reporters are doubly burdened – they all have second jobs as full-time students.

So the “happiness” edition of Manor Ink comes as a welcome respite from the usual rigors of news gathering. Its theme is based on our regular feature, the “Inkwell of Happiness” pages that contain reviews and puzzles – fun stuff. Several staffers (hey, Osei!) were so motivated, they wrote more than a few articles for this special edition.

As production editor for Manor Ink, I’m usually in the background, enforcing deadlines and preparing pages for print. But I wanted to take this opportunity to let our readers know this extra-edition 12-pager is also our happy gift to you, a thank-you for the support this little newspaper has received over the years from Manor residents and from the hamlet’s business community. We will continue to do what we’ve always done, resuming our usual news reporting next month. But for now, here’s a little happiness to kick off 2022. Now, as our Editor-in-Chief Osei Helper would say, let’s get to it!
