In this age of 5-G phones, social media and now artificial intelligence, newspapers are a hoary reminder of days gone by. In many communities, daily and even weekly publications have gone dark, leaving “news deserts” where there once were vibrant local news-gathering operations. A perilous situation in these politically fraught times. At Manor Ink, we think we’ve hit upon a solution, and we’re happy to share it every month with our readers. Our little nonprofit newspaper is published by the Livingston Manor Library, a publicly supported institution, and we’re staffed largely by the hamlet’s students. They learn about journalism, the town gets the news, and local businesses have a place to promote their services. A happy circumstance all around. That’s why every January we celebrate the paper’s success with the “Happiness Issue.” Our young staff gets to share what makes them happy, and hopefully their stories will make readers happy, too.
Note to readers: Manor Ink’s Town and School Board reports for December 2022 can be found here.
